Study Description and Objectives
Panel Intelligence engaged a set of eight interventional cardiologists in an online panel discussion to review information presented at the 2007 American College of Cardiology's (ACC) Annual Scientific Session and the 2nd Annual Innovation in Intervention: i2 Summit. The goals of this discussion were to:
§ Review the COURAGE trial data studying outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) plus maximum medical therapy versus maximum medical therapy alone.
§ Discuss the SPIRIT-III trial examining Guidant’s XIENCE™ V Everolimus Eluting Coronary Stent System versus Boston Scientific’s TAXUS EXPRESS2™ Paclitaxel Eluting Coronary Stent System.
§ Evaluate the ABSORB trial regarding the Bioabsorbable Everolimus-Eluting Coronary Stent System.
§ Assess the OrbusNeich Genous Bio-engineered R Stent, which is coated with endothelial progenitor cells.
§ Review the Endeavor III trial comparing treatment with either the Abbott’s Endeavor zotarolimus-eluting stent or Cordis/Johnon &Johnson’s Cypher sirolimus-eluting stent.
§ Examine the issue of stent thrombosis in drug-eluting stents.
§ Discuss the ARMYDA-ACS trial about using atorvastatin (Pfizer’s Lipitor) as pre-treatment prior to PCI.
